All contact lenses are backed by our Guaranteed Fit Program, and free contact lens consultations are available by appointment (with a valid spectacle prescription).

OUR HISTORY

In 1967, George Ullom (pictured right) founded Price Optical Company and opened the first store at 308 W. Fourth St. in Williamsport.  He had lived in Pittsburgh and owned several optical stores there, but he was tired of the hustle and bustle of the city and sought a more peaceful setting in Williamsport.

Meanwhile, back in Pittsburgh, Contact Lens Specialist Peter J. Lucas owned Lucas Contact Lens, and coincidentally, was married to George Ullom’s daughter.

It was here (at Lucas Contact Lens) where Nick Bender, current President of Price Optical, began his illustrious career as a Contact Lens Specialist. Nick worked there while attending school at the Optician’s Institute, and after graduating, began working full-time. He would also fly up to Williamsport once a week to fit patients with contact lenses at Price Optical.

Sadly, Peter Lucas (pictured left) passed away in 1975, and George took over Lucas Contact Lens.  Nick moved to Williamsport to help with the business and ended up partnering with George.  Business was good, so they opened another location in Lock Haven called Price Eyewear.

In 1979, Dr. Thomas Gmitter joined the Price Optical team, and to this day, remains the optometrist at both Price Optical and Price Eyewear.

Price Optical continued to grow over the years, and in 1993, the current location at 567 E. Third St. was opened.  The new store included state-of-the-art equipment and an impressive showroom layout.  Because of its innovative design, Price Optical was featured in the October 1994 edition of Eyecare Business Magazine.

On February 19, 2003 under the Commonwealth laws of Pennsylvania, Price Optical became Price Optical Co., Incorporated, and Nick Bender became the President.
